The Perfect Practice Putting Mat has been a super hot golf item lately, which is why we had to try it out! This putting mat is one of the smoothest looking mats we have seen on the market, and there is good reason why there are so many knock off brands trying to copy it.

One of the great selling points for this product is the endorsement by Dustin Johnson, who has been MONEY on tour! The Perfect Practice Putting Mat is also used by Marc Leishman and up and coming star, Matthew Wolff, among many other pros.

Are Putting Mats Worth It?

Our quick answer is…YES. Putting mats can be super helpful for practicing at home. Using a mat is a great way to practice putting straight and lining up your putts correctly (you don’t have to worry about any break, if you miss left, it’s because you hit it left).

Most putting mats have a return system as well, which is super helpful when practicing putting. The return system allows you to remain in your putting stance, which will help you sink a lot more putts in a short amount of time (not needing to constantly go grab and pick up your ball).

Perfect Practice Putting Mat Set Up

The Perfect Practice Putting Mat has a pretty unique set up and design. The packaging for this product in itself is genius. As you can see in the images below, the return track is made up of multiple wood pieces that connect via magnets. This makes it easy to store, but wait…there’s more to it.

Magnets on ball return track

Not only do the separable tracks make the mat easy to store, they serve a purpose for your practice as well. You can remove/add track pieces to the desired distance you choose to practice from. If you want to putt from two feet, then remove all but one return track piece. If you want to practice from 9 feet, keep all the tracks laid out.

Practicing Putting With The Perfect Practice Putting Mat

Practicing with the Perfect Practice Putting Mat is a smooth experience. The mat is thick, and flat, that way you’re not running into those random snags and bumps on thinner mats. The small hill going up to the hole is at a perfect incline, which, when you miss, the ball will return to you. This small incline is to help avoid missing putts short.

The lines on the mat are super helpful. Great for lining up your putter, and setting up for the putt. Having the distance in feet marked out on the mat is helpful as well, giving you opportunities to practice at all distances within 9 feet (depending on the mat you get), which gives you feedback on which distances you need to practice most.

Lastly, one of the coolest features of the Perfect Practice Putting Mat is the second, smaller than regulation hole (also depending on which model you purchase). Practicing on the smaller hole really helps you realize how accurate you are, and where you need practice. You literally have to hit the PERFECT putt for it to go in. On top of having the smaller hole, they have the extra lines that line up pretty well with the length of your putter head, which is helpful for your take back and follow through.

Pros and Cons of Perfect Practice Putting Mat

A lot of the pros have already been mentioned, but a quick list could be helpful for you when making a decision to whether or not you would purchase this mat:

Pros:

  • Thick, quality mat that doesn’t snag or leave bumps
  • Lines toward the hole to help line up your putt
  • Distance measurements along mat
  • Smooth return mechanism
  • Adjustable return track (using magnets)
  • Smaller practice hole with three guiding lines

Cons:

  • Price – generally $170 (it is more pricey than other mats, but matches the quality)
  • Some people have experienced needing to iron the mat before using, due to bends from being boxed/stored
  • If the floor is uneven, the return track might not return the ball flawlessly every time

Is the Perfect Practice Putting Mat Worth The Price?

Overall, as we have used and reviewed this product, we think it is. It has been great to practice with, and has been much better than other putting mats we have used. The thickness of the mat, the smooth surface, and adjustable ball return has been a game changer for us.
